- Andrew Coventry Whyte was born 28Mar1847 at Orwell in Kinross, son of James Whyte and Jane Mailler.
In the 1851 Census Andrew is aged 4 living with his parents and siblings - village of Milnathort, District 2, p45 -
James Whyte, Head, married, aged 36 born Orwell, Master Shoemaker employing 3 men.
Jane, wife, aged 38 born Orwell - with children
Robert, aged 10, student born Orwell
David, aged 8, student born Orwell

Their oldest child, daughter Janet Whyte now aged 12 and living with her grandmother Janet Mailer aged 66.

In 1879 Andrew Whyte 31 - Mate - on ship 'Gartmorn - sailing from Newcastle to Sydney arriving 26Feb1879.
Son James born 1882 Clackmannan.
In 1885 Captain A C Whyte aged 38 sailed from London to Sydney per 'Romsdal' arriving Sydney 21May1885.

Captain A C Whyte of Collar, near Glasgow, Scotland, died at "Grosse Isle" of Dysentery on the 4th day of September 1898
and was buried in Mount Royal Cemetery Montreal on the 7th day of the same month and year. Aged 50 years.

(Andrew Coventry Whyte had a great aunt Janet Mailer b 1782 (sister of grandfather David Mailer) who married William Coventry.
William and Janet's son Andrew Coventry b 1818 married Marion Nicholson 1849 Stirling, Scotland.
In 1852 Andrew and Marion and two daughters Marion/Mary Reid and Janet Mailer arrived in Melbourne per 'Hibernia' on 11Oct1852.
Both daughters married and had families -
Mary Reid married William Edward Paulin 1869 and had 11 children, she died in 1922 aged 71 years.
Janet Mailer married twice - first to William Paxton in 1870 producing three children, then William Libbis in 1887 to whom another 2 children born -
Janet died 1901 aged 48 years.
Their father Andrew died in 1858 but their mother Marion lived to the aged of 83, dying in 1910 after remarrying Peter Peddie in 1859.
Wondering if Captain A C Whyte managed to meet up with his many relatives in Victoria during his sea-faring days. Sadly he would not have met his
namesake Andrew Coventry who died when A C was only 11.
