Wintle found her husband, Mr. James Wintle, aged 74, lying dead on the floor in the kitchen with a pillow under his head and his face covered with a shirt. A gas tube leading under the shirt was connected with a gas ring. At an inquest before the district coroner, Air. W. M. Wallnutt, medical evidence was given that deceased, who suffered from miner's complaint, a weak heart and another internal complaint, had been in great pain for several days, and probably would not hae lived more than a week or two. A note left on a dressing-table by deceased read: "Too much pain. Goodbye all. Dad." The coroner, in returning a verdict that death was duo to gas poisoning, self-administered, while suffering from mental depression and extreme physical pain, referred to the distressing circumstances and extended the sympathy of the Court to Mrs. Wintle and the family.
