YOUNG PEOPLE GO ABOUT HALF NAKED The youth of today went about half naked and had ideas which were "fast," said Mr. John.Thomas Hutchinson, of Horsham, when he celebrated his 97th birthday yesterday.
Mr. Thomas is a pioneer of Horsham and one of the oldest residents in the Wimmera. He was born In the Balmoraal district and was the second child in at family of 18 children. Woodcutting and shearing were his main occupations. He was renowned as a fast blade shearer, often shearing 100 sheep a day without the aid of a machine. Mr. Hutchinson mar ried Miss Mary Bell, of Mockinys, who died in 1941 at the age of 82. Today he is in good health despite failing sight, and hearing. This birthday will be the 88111 ' 38th time in succession that Mr.Hutchinson's daughter-in-law has made a large Iced cake fr him. Memories of the "good old days" are always revived when he meets elderly friends. he retains a remark able memory of historical events associated with early Wimmera days. Mr Hutchinson is a non smoker and non drinker He lives with his daughter, his daughter, Mrs. E. Scott, of McPherson street, Horsham.

DISTRICT PIONEER DIES AT 97 Mr. John Thomas Hutchinson, of 64. McPherson Street, Horsham, died on Thursday. He was 97 years old. Mr. Hutchinson was a well known Horsham identity and was a member of the Salvation Army for more than 60 years., He was also known as an expert shearer who could shear more than 100 sheep a day with blade shears. Mr. Hutchinson was born at Black. Swamp, Balmoral, and wans mmiaied at 27 to Miss Mary Jane Bell who predeceased him. He leaves five children, Arthur, of Maryborough, Ethel May (Mrs. R. T. Scott), Horsham, George, Horsham, Albert, Horsham and An drew, Melbourne. Mr. Hutchinson's fimeral was held at Horsham Ceme tery and many Horsham.and district 'people attended' Coffin bearers were Messrs. Stan Hutchinson, Les. Hutchinson, Jack Hutchinson, John Hutchinson, Malcolm Scott and Bert Scott.
Captain Sapwell, of Hor sham Salvation Army conducted the service at the Army Citadel and later a service at the graveside.
Funeral arrangements were by L. Hutchinson and Son.
