      IN DIVORCE
      SYDNEY. Patrick Leo
      O'Halloran, of Inverell, told
      the Divorce Court his
wife had been beaten up by
      a bookmaker with whom she
      committed adultery.
      Mr. Justice Toose granted :
      Dr. O'Halloran a decree nisi
      for divorce from Jean Emer-
      tine O'Halloran, formerly
      Forsythe, on the grounds of
      heir adultery with Colin
      Schmiede.
He told the Court he first
      heard of the association when
he was ill in Gloucester House,
      Sydney, in 1949, and Schmiede
drove her from Inverell to visit
      him in hospital.
      One night after he returned
to Inverell his wife was bruis
ed when she came home and
      stated that Schmiede had beat
      en her up.
He said he told his wife no
man would belt a woman un
less she had been his lover
      and given him a certain
      amount of right.
      His wife replied. 'Perhaps
      I have.'

      she accompanied Mrs. O'Hal
      loran to Sydney in March,
1951, and shared a room at the
      Coogee Bay Hotel.
      She said Mrs. O'Halloran
often went in her night at
tire to Schmiede's room in the ,
      hotel.
