Chronicle (Adelaide, SA : 1895 - 1954) Sat 11 Jul 1903 Page 32
Francis Davison Forsyth, aged' 47, who had been employed by Messrs. D. & J. Fowler for about 16 years, committed suicide at his residence in Flinders-street, Kent Town, on Sunday evening. The City Coroner (Dr. Bamsay Smith) held an enquiry into the circumstances at the late residence of Mr. Forsyth on Monday afternoon.
Linda Forsyth identified the body as that of her husband. He was a warehouseman, and had been in the employ of Messrs. D. and J. Fowler, wholesale grocers. About 6.30 p.in. on Sunday witness went to church, leaving her husband home with his mother.
When witness returned home the mother said she had heard a noise in the cellar, and thought that a cat had knocked something over. Went to the cellar and found that the door was locked. Forced the window open, and climbed through the opening into the cellar, where she discovered her husband' hanging by a rope, a noose having been slipped over his head. Cut him down immediately, but life was extinct. The deceased had been depressed in spirits lately.
On Sunday morning he had complained of severe pains in the head, and had his break fast and dinner in bed. One of his subordinates at Messrs. D. '& J. Fowler had got into trouble recently, and the deceased appeared to grieve over the matter.
The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased committed suicide by hanging, he being of unsound mind at the time.
