The following is information passed down through Thelma Watts' (great grandaughter of Christoff) family.

Christoff was in possession of medals from the Prussian Army, presumably awarded to him prior to his departure to Australia.

The primary reason for the family's migration was to protect their son, Frederick Wihelm, from the rigours of continual warring in Germany.

The family travelled to Armidale, NSW and settled with Mr Dangar at Gostwyck Station and learned about farming.

They moved to Ashford around 1866 and settled on a 400 acre settlers grant, and then gradually bought out other settlers until they acquired a total of 2,000 acres.

Amongst other farming activities, Christoff and Wilhelm bred horses for the Indian army. They were the owners of the famous stallion 'Krupp'. These horses commanded high prices of twenty to sixty pounds sterling - a fortune in comparative value today.
