- EXTRACTS FROM THE BOOK 'Lock Lomond to Australia 1862. The Mc Intyre Family" Extracts revelant to Forsyth Family.
Malcolm Mc Intyre, fourth child and second son of Jane & Peter Mc Intyre, was born on 29 January, 1841 at "Edintaggarl", in the Pasrtish of Luss, county of Dunbartonshir, Scotland.
The family moved to "Stuckendroin" about May 1841 where Malcolm grew up. He arrived in Queensland with his father and family in 1862. They all travelled to Chinchilla Station on the condamine River. Malcolm obtained work and was generally
handy around the station. He and John Mc Phee built a new station store there, a log building of cypress pine with a bark roof.
In early February, 1864, Malcolm, John and Peter left Chinchilla on horseback and rode to Ipswich, where Malcolm worked for Walter Grey, wool dumping with his brother John and Daniel Brodie. He met Isabella Phair, the daughter of James Phair
and Catherine Willis and in 1866 they were married in Ipswich. Malcolm was working in a store and had a nice house.
He and Isabella had eight children, three of whom died in childhood:- Jane born 1867, Violet Isabella born 1870 and Malcolm born 1877. The others were:- Peter, James Phair, Isabella (Forsyth), Catherine Jane, and Emily Agnes. They were living
in Ann Street, Spring Hill in September, 1878 when baby Malcolm died.
When Malcolm and his family were going thrugh very difficult times, his brothers, donald and Dugald, helped out by signing a promissory note for 140 pounds with interest at 12.1/2 per cent for six months and his father, Peter gave him a horse.
Malcolm was a hawker and living in Allora when he was accidentally killed on 24 September 1880, at the Hendn Railway Station. He is buried in the Allora cemetery.
At the inquest held on 27 Swptember, evidence given by the stationmaster and a farmer revealed that Malcolm had been in the railway station office signing for the rceipt of some goods and was at that time perfectly sober. Ten minutes after he
left the office the up train from Toowoomba arrived. The horses were restive and Malcolm was trying to steady them. The moment the train stopped, the horses bolted with the loaded dray. The shafter shot by the leader throwing Malcolm on to
the ground and the wheel of the dray passed over his head killing him instantly. The inquest found no suspicion.
His widow, Isabella, was left with five young children between 1 and 11 years old. She returned to Brisbane and supported her family operating a boarding house, "Ebronah" at 260 Boundary Street, Spring Hill. About 1888 she moved two doors
along to No. 246, "Toorong House" which she ran until 1903 when she moved to "Bignonia" in Merthyr Road, New Farm, between Abbott * Moray Streets. From 1905 until the time of her death on 26 July 1907 she lived at 47 Martin Street, New Farm."
