- Written by Ina Baxter & Peter Fletcher
"Rosina Wilhelmina, (Known as Minnie), was born at Greenmount in 1880, the second child of Colin and Elizabeth Mc Intyre. three years later she moved with her family to North Branch (Now Yarranlea), where she attended school.
In her late teens she spent two years on Thursday island as governess to the children of Mr. Reid, a tacher. On her return she became a Pupil-Teacher at the Yarranlea school. After completion of her training Minnie was posted to Coolmujndra,
near Inglewood. Here she had to row herself across macintyre Brook each day to reach the school. Transport betwen Coolmundra and her home for holidays was by Cobb & Co. coach.
When the Mt. Tyson School, situated only half a mile from "Glenmore", opened in 1904, she applied for and was granted the position of its first teacher.
In 1905, Minnie was married in the springside Church of England, to Alexander Roy Fletcher, whom she had met while teaching at Coomundra. They lived first at "The Ranch", a cattle property near Gore, but this was later sold and they purchased
"Kia Ora:, a 172 acre block near Mt. Russell. They renamed this property "Glengarry", and there reared their five children:- Alan, colin, Ina (Baxter), Jack and Peter. (Jack married Margaret Edith Forsyth).
Minnie and her husband continued to live at :"Glengarry", increasing their land holding over the years by securing several adjoining properties. Minnie was an active member of the Irongate district, becoming foundation President of the C.W.A.
Being a very hospitable person, Sunday tennis parties were a regular occurrance at her home.
Minnie ensured that all her children were well educated and was very proud of her son, Alan, who became the Member for Cunningham on the retirement of her uncle, Malcolm Mc Intyre. During his political cereer, Alan was appointed Speaker of the
House, and later to the portfolios of Land and Education. He was honoured with a knighthood for his services to the Queensland government.
At the age of 82, Minnie left "Glengarry" to reside at Brodribb Home in Toowoomba, her husband having predeceased her in 1958. Here she kept her mind active by doing crochet and crossword puzzles. She retained her interest in current affairs
and politics, always welcoming a lively discussion with her brothers. She died in 1982, aged 102.
