MR. WILLIAM C. FORSYTH.
Following a lengthy illness, borne
with wonderful fortitude, Mr. William
Candlisb Forsyth, father of Mr. Robt.
Forsyth, of Busselton, passed away
at the Busselton Hospital on Satur
day morning last. Deceased, who
was for many years one of the leading
residents of Fremantle, came to this
district at the end of last year, and
with his wife and son, resided at
Padingup. Failing health, however,
prevented him entering into the social
life of the community in his charac
teristic fashion, and his last days
were full of suffering and pain.
Mr. Forsyth was born at Hackam,
South Australia, and came to Fre
uiautle 41 years ago to manage the
timber firm of L. B. Honey and Co.,
and subsequently, in conjunction with
the late J. M. Ferguson, acquired the.
interests of that firm, and expanded
the timber trade. Later he built the
sailing vessels "Alfred Hawley,"
"Mary Blair", and "Bittern," and
profitably traded with the Indies,
China and Japan. He was for some
years a member of the Fremantle
Municipal Council, and prominent in
public aud Masonic circles. Of a
kindly and generous disposition, the
late gentleman enjoyed the confidence
and respect of a wide circle of friends,
A widow, three daughters, and two
sons mourn his loss.
The funeral took place on Sunday
afternoon, when the remains were
conveyed St. Mary's Church, where
a brief service preceding that at the
graveside, was conducted by the Rev.
C. W. Ker. Included in a large num
ber of friends who attended, were
representatives of the Sussex Masonic
lodge, Ancient Order of Druids, Buf
faloes Lodge, and the Busselton Town
Band. Amongst the wreaths received
were those from:?
Mother and Family; Tony and
Lylit; Mr. and Mrs. Christian and
family; Mr. and Mrs. Fildes; Mrs.
Kinsella and family; Rector and Mrs.
Ker; R.AO. Buffaloes; Mrs. Carter
and family; Mr. and Mrs. T. Slavin;
Busselton Brass Band; Nell, Doug,
and family; Lit and George Newman;
Mr. and Mrs. Alby Smith and family,
Thos. Peaker, of Busselton, carried
out funeral arrangements.
