GOLDEN WEDDINGS
Last Sunday afternoon about 80 relatives and friends assembled at 'Fairview,' Wallendbeen, to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Faulks on their golden wedding.
Within a year of their wedding Mr. Tom Faulks bought 'Fairview' from the late Mr, James Corby, and has since added four adjoining properties, including one bought from Mr. George Bradman, father of the now famous Don, whose birth, however, took place at a nursing home at Cootamundra whilst the parents were in occupation of the land referred to. The original home of Mr. and Mrs. Faulks, built of pisi, still stands, farther down' the hill. It was in 1915 that Mr. Faulks had the present very comfortable brick, home erected.
The family of four? Mr. Stan Faulks (whose property is alongside), Mrs. Wilfred Forsyth and the widow of the late Mr. Glen Forsyth and the single daughter, were present.
The relatives among the gathering included Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Faulks, who came from Nowra for the happy occasion.
After conducting his afternoon service in the historic church at Cullinga, Rev. A. J. Keeling, along with many of his congregation, went on to 'Fairview.' 'We have all come,' said Rev Keeling to the venerable couple, 'to congratulate you, and to wish you many more years of happiness. ' ' Mr. Faulks, he added, was a man of reputed integrity, who enjoyed a full measure of esteem in the community; and to him and the family Mrs. Faulks 's had been a gracious ministry.
Other speakers 'among the well-wishers were Councillor W. Smirl (president of the Jindalee Shire Council), Mr. Walter Sackett (Wallendbeen), and Mr. R. H. Sweeney (of Cootamundra, late of Cullinga).

BERTHA MARY FORSYTH.
After intense suffering, Mrs. Bertha M. Forsyth fell asleep at her home,'Waveney,' Rocklands Road, Wollstonecraft. Reared in a good old Methodist home, she was always loyal
to the Church of her father. She was a daughter of the late Howard Fleming, who for many years was senior circuit steward in the Willoughby circuit. For 35 years she and
her husband, Alderman R. C. Forsyth, haye been actively associated with the- Crows Nest Church. Mrs. Forsyth was of a very retiring disposition. She loved her home and lived for her family; a loyal wife and a loving mother. Her bright
and cheery nature gathered around her a large circle of friends. The esteem in which the deceased was held was manifested by the large and representative gathering at the funeral. The service at the home was conducted by the President of the Conference, Rev. H. C. Foreman, M.A., an old friend of the family.
The President delivered a gracious, tender and comforting message. He rejoiced to know that amidst her pain she had maintained a triumphant faith. The things unseen and eternal
were real to her. The body was laid to rest in the Northern Suburbs Cemetery. To the sorrowing husband and three daughters, Muriel (Mrs. George Peterson), Beryl and Cecily we extend our sympathy. W.M.R.

PECULIAR ACCIDENT
Scissors Pierce Vein
Little Girl's Plight
On Monday last a peculiar acci
dent befel Florence Fleming, the
seven-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. T. Fleming, of Ross Hill,
which though at the time appear- :
ed trivial, proved serious and may
have resulted in the little girl's
death.
It appears that Mrs. Fleming was
removing a frock from the machine,
and, in doing so, a pair of scissors,
concealed under the garment, were
dragged off the machine and, failing
point-downwards, pierced the little
girl's thigh, inflicting a small puncture.
When the scissors were removed, a
strong stream of blood spurted from
the wound and it was evident that a
vein had been pierced. 'The haemor
rhage was stopped, however, and the
girl was put to bed.
Later, she called to her father for
a drink, and when taking it remarked
that, there was a lot of blood on her-
bed. On investigating, Mr. Fleming
was horrified to discover that the
kiddie was lying in a pool of blood,
whilst the sheets near her thigh were
saturated. A doctor was speedily call
ed and the child was removed to In-
nishowen private hospital, where a
minor operation was performed yes
terday.
Inquiries this morning elicited that
the child, though weak, ws showing
satisfactory progress.

AN AUSTRALIAN AT OXFORD
MR. H. H. FORSAYTH.
It was announced in' our cables a' few days ago that H. H. Forsayth,, whoso parents reside at Vaucluse and who is now a student at Oxford University, had been invited by England and Scotland to play In the trial matches for the selection of the International Rugby Union football team.
MR. H. H. FORSAYTH.
Mr. Forsayth is the son of Mr. J. M. C. Forsayth, of Vaucluse Hall, Vaucluse, a well known South Sea Island merchant, and who has always been an enthusiast in Sport. His son, who is just 21 years of age, had a distinguished career at the King's School, Parramatta, where he won a name for his play in the full-back position. He proceeded to Oxford University at the end of last year, and in his Iast season was awarded his full blue for football. "Another Australian, and insidentally an old boy of the King's School, R. H. Benington, was awarded his blue at the same time.
Mr. Forsayth is a typical Australian of the clean ,athletic type. He stands nearly six feet high and now weighs slightly over 13 stone. Private advices recently received state that young Forsayth's play is regarded as very fine by expert critics, and it is expected that he will become one of the finest exponents of his own particular branch of the Rugby game.

MR. J. M. C. FORSAYTH.
Mr. E. T. Hudson, of Mosman, writes: The death of Mr. J. M. C. Forsayth has removed a notable character whose early life was actively associated with the South Sea Islands. Few men possessed such intimate knowledge of the Melanesian and Polynesian races and successfully studied the psychology of the former savage inhabitants of the Pacific Islands.
For a number of years he owned ex- tensive plantations in New Britain, New Ireland, the Solomon Islands, and many of the outlying groups, extending as far eastward as Tahiti. He also controlled a number of trading stations. His fleet of schooners and smaller vessels was a source of much pride to him, but he relinquished most of his interests to settle in Sydney.
After making his home at Vaucluse, he occupied his leisure with ocean fishing and racing, as well as being an enthusiastic supporter of cricket and football.

FROM THE SOUTH SEAS.
VISIT OF MR. FORSAYTH.
Mr. J. M. C. Forsayth, the British Consul in New Britain, and the proprietor of extensive plantations in the German Archipelago, who is at present on a visit to Sydney, states that trade generally is prosperous, and that native matters are quiet.
Before leaving Simpsonhafen it was reported that a plot, planned by a number of discontented natives, to murder all the European missionaries at Alexinhafen [sic], on the mainland, had been frustrated just in time. The local police effected a number of arrests before any harm had been done, and two of the ring- leaders were subsequently shot. Mr. For- sayth says that at the time he left New Bri- tain no official reports had been received.
The company recently formed in Germany to work the phosphate deposits on the island of Angauer, in the Pelaw or Low Archipelago, is, Mr. Forsayth reports, making rapid progress. The Phosphate Company a few weeks ago chartered the Norddeutscher-Lloyd steamer Langeoog for the purpose of recruiting native labour to work on the island. It is estimated that the deposit at Angauer consists of at least 2,500,000 tons, and about 10,000 tons have already been shipped to Hamburg.
The German gunboat Planet, Mr. Forsayth says, is now on her way to Australia from the Bismarck Archipelago, and should reach Brisbane very shortly. After a stay there for a week, the Planet will come on to Sydney

News of the appointment of Mr. J. M. C. Forsayth as the first British Consul for Ger- man New Guinea was brought to Sydney yes- terday by the steamer Prinz Waldemar. Mr. Forsayth, who is n member of the Legisla- tive Council of the German Colony, is connected with the well-known firm of E. E. Forsayth, of Rabaul, and the headquarters of the consulate will be at Herbertshohe. The territory was annexed by Germany in 1884, and the appointment of a British Consul has given much satisfaction to English settlers there. Mr. Forsayth's Australian residence is at Neutral Bay.
