A YOUNG GIRL'S SUICIDE.
The death of a domestic servant named Ellen Clarke Wilson, 18, who had been in the employ of Mrs. Deleuil, 47 Johnston- street, Annandale, was reported to the Coroner on Tuesday. The inmates of the house went out on Monday, leaving the deceased in charge. On their return at night they were unable to obtain admis- sion, and, after making fruitless endeavors to get in, were compelled to put up at a neighboring hotel. In the morning they returned to their house, and after some
time managed to force an entrance. Upon searching the house, the girl was discovered lying DEAD ON HER BED, WITH A REVOLVER ALONGSIDE. There was a wound in the neck, from which blood had been flowing. Death had evidently taken place some hours. The girl, it is said, was always in good spirits, and seemed to have no cause for worry. A finding of suicide was recorded. | Ellen Clarke Wilson

Mrs. Margaret Smith, who died at the residence of her-daughter, Mrs. A. Gardner, Holkham-avenue, Randwick, recently, at the age of 74 years, was a member of the Forsyth family, of Inverell. She was born at Port Macquarie, and often spoke of her experi ences with bushangers in her childhood days. On one occasion she was riding a horse when she was approached by Thunderbolt. He wanted her horse, but she declined to give up the animal. It was the bushranger's boast that he would not rob a girl, and he allowed her to pass. Mrs Smith admitted having given food to the bush ranger, Starlight, and also to Thunderbolt, at different times. Her husband, Mr. Harry Smith, is a grazier, and has owned a number of properties in the Inverell district. | Joseph Henry Wilson

MRS. M. DE J. FORSYTH.
There passed away at her home, Bukkulla, on Wednesday, one of the district's oldest and most respected residents, in the person of Mrs. Maria de Jcsu Forsyth. Deceased, who first saw the light of day at Port Macquarie in the year 1840, had thus reached the good old age of 79 years. Leaving Port Macquarie with her parents, who in those early days in search of fortune came to the north- western part of the State, where the pioneers were few and far between, and there being no school the parents sent their child back to Port Macquarie, where she received her education. After spending her early days there, she returned to her parents' home. Later she married the late John Forsyth, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, who predeceased her 29 years ago. Coming to this district when Inverell was in its early infancy, the old lady was able to give a most interesting account of the township from its first store to the present day. She was a grand old soul, whose charity and benevolence will long live in the memory of those who came her way. Deceased leaves a family of seven daughters and four sons, all of whom were present to pay their last respects to the departed. Besides the children mentioned, there are 55 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. The cortege left the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. Gollege, Henderson street, the remains being interred in the Pres- byterian portion of the cemetery. Mr. C. S. Thorley had charge of the mortuary arrangements. | Maria De Jesu Seriria Da Costa Wilson

ELDERLY MAN'S FATE
SUICIDE BY POISONING SEVERE PAIN SUFFERED [BY TF.LEGRArn OWN CORRESPONDENT] WAIHI, Wednesday On returning to her home in Savage Road after a brief absence yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Margaret H. Wintle found her husband, Mr. James Wintle, aged 74, lying dead on the floor in the kitchen with a pillow under his head and his face covered with a shirt. A gas tube leading under the shirt was connected with a gas ring. At an inquest before the district coroner, Air. W. M. Wallnutt, medical evidence was given that deceased, who suffered from miner's complaint, a weak heart and another internal complaint, had been in great pain for several days, and probably would not hae lived more than a week or two. A note left on a dressing-table by deceased read: "Too much pain. Goodbye all. Dad." The coroner, in returning a verdict that death was duo to gas poisoning, self-administered, while suffering from mental depression and extreme physical pain, referred to the distressing circumstances and extended the sympathy of the Court to Mrs. Wintle and the family.

WEDDING BELLS
WITT- MASON.
Iii the Methodist church, Longford, on Wednesday afternoon, a large crowd assembled to witness a pretty wedding, the contracting parties being Miss Constance A. Mason, eldest daughter of the
late Mr Louis Mason, and Mr Frederick M. Witt, eldest son of Mr James Witt.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. E. Warren. The bride entered the church on the arm of her stepfather (Mr Alfred Briggs), by whom she was afterwards given away. She looked delightfully pretty in a trained empire gown of cream silk voile, the bodice bing elaborately trimmed with embroidered silk lace ; a veil- was worn, and a wreath of orange blossoms, and she carried a- shower bouquet of snow flakes, hyacinths, narcissi, and ferns, all tied together with satin streamers, which completed a becoming toilette.
The sister of the bride (Miss Claribel Mason) was the first bridesmaid, andwore a pretty cream Sicilian frock, trimmed with silk lace. Miss Alice Witt (sister of the bridegroom) was the other bridesmaid, and looked dainty in a costume of pink silk muslin. Each carried a shower bouquet of lovely spring blossoms. All the bouquets were arranged and presented by Miss D. Hopkins, who was largely responsible
for the artistic arrangements of the decorations in the church. - These were carried out in white flowers and ever greens, with rows of white crepe paper. This spanned the communion rail from the central arch in the place of the customary floral -wedding bell ; a spray of white artificial birds was suspended above the heads of the bridal pair- The decoration was a conspicuous one, and was favorably commented upon.
The bridegroom was supported by Mr W. Mason (brother of the bride) as best man, the groomsman being Mr W. Witt (brother of tfhe bridegroom). The choir sang 'The voice that breathed o'er Eden,' and the 'Wedding March' was played by Miss Hopkins as the party left the church. Mr and Mrs Briggs afterwards entertained the party and near relatives at a wedding tea. The Rev. J. E. Warren proposed the health of the bride, and the bridegroom responded. Mrs Witt's travelling dress was a brown coat and skirt, with silk blouse, and green silk straw hat, trimmed with brown and green.

WEDDING BELLS
PITT - WITT.
On Wednesday afternoon the Baptist
church at Longford was crowded to
witness the marriage of Mr Ronald Pitt
(second son of Mr Jas. Pitt, of Long
ford House) and Miss Lily Witt, eldest
daughter of Mr James Witt, of Berone
Villa. The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. F.J. Dunkley. The bride,
who entered the church on the arm of
her father, by whom she was after-
wards given away, wore a pretty gown
of white silk eolienne, made with a
train, and trimmed with malines over
lace, edelweiss insertion, and tucked
net. She also wore a garniture of
pearls and gold, a gift from Miss
Wright, of Mount Lyell. The usual
wreath and an embroidered veil were
worn. She carried a handsome shower
bouquet, arranged by Miss Spurling.
The bride was attended by Miss May
Witt and Miss Edith Pitt (sisters of
the bride and bridegroom respectively).
They both wore dainty white silk mus
lin frocks, and carried crooks, decor
ated with flowers and blue ribbon
streamers. Miss Vera Matthews, as
maid of honor, wore a white embroid
ered dress, and carricd a basket of love
ly flowers and fern. The bridegroom
was supported by Mr T. Ayers as best
man, and the bride's brother, Mr W.
Witt, as groomsman. As the bridal
party entered the church the hymn,
"The voice that breathed o'er Eden"
was sung. Mrs Gibson (the bride
groom's sister) presided at the organ,
and played ''The wedding march" at
the conclusion of the ceremony. The
bridegroom's present to the bride was
a handsome gold pendant, and to the
bridesmaids gold Tasmanian map pen
dants. Mr and Mrs Witt entertained
the guests at a wedding tea at Berone
Villa, served in a marquee decorated
for the occasion. The presents, of
which there were a large number, were
of a useful and costly nature. Mr and
Mrs Pitt left by the evening train for
their honeymoon for Launceston. Mrs
Pitt travelled in a tweed coat and
skirt, with while picture hat.
