Written by grandson Clyde Mc Intyre.
"Colin McKenzie McIntyre, the ninth child of Peter and Jane McIntyre, was born at ""Stuckendrion"", Scotland, on 23 May 1854, He attended school at Ardlui for three winters (the school was closed during the summer months), before coming to
Australia with his father, brothers and sisters. They landed in Brisbane in November, 1862.
He subsequently travelled to Chinchilla Station (by dray and on foot), where his father had obtained a job as an overseer. As Colin was too young to shepherd a mob of sheep, he was left at the head station with his elder brother to look after
a few ewes. The others went to out-stations. After a year the whole family returned to Ipswich. Colin stayed with his sister, Violet, her husband Daniel Brodie and family while attending John Scott's school for two years. This marked the
end of his formal schooling. His father purchased some land from Clifton Station so Colin accompanied him to their new farm. In 1869 this farm was sold and land purchased at Emu Creek. He helped work this property for several years till his
marriage to Elizabeth Keefer on 4 May 1878.
With the help of his father, he purchased 158 acres of land @ 3 Pounds 10 Shillings per acre situated at what is now known as "Steel Rudd's Corner", Nobby. He had little success on this farm. On hearing from his brothers-in-law who had
shifted to North Branch (now Yarranlea) that government land was available there, he selected a block of 160 acres next door to them @ 6d. an acre for 5 years. He shifted his house to this place which he named
"Inversnaid"
That year he took a job shearing at Yandilla Station leaving his wife and two children in the care of his brothers-in-law. He continued to go shearing every year except for the years 1890-91 when he was elected as canvasser for the
newly-formed Shearers' Union. His area covered the Whole Darling Downs and he received 4 pounds per week for this work.
In 1893 tragedy struck. His eldest child, Peter, was killed when returning from Pittsworth driving the horse and cart. The horse bolted, smashing the cart against a tree.
When Mount Russell Station was opened for settlement by the government in 1902, Colin secured a block of 203 acres @ 2 Pounds 12 Shillings an acre which he thought suitable for dairing. He had a house of 10 Rooms built and moved his whole
family to their new home which was named "Glenmore". In the years 1878 to 1902, fourteen children had been born to Colin and his wife, Elizabeth. They wer Peter, Minnie, David, John, Jane, Gus, Colin, Malcolm, Sidney, Peter, Dugald, Ken,
Clare and Violet. The Yarranlea property was leased for a time then sold.
In 1903 at a meeting of neighbours held in the dining room at "Glenmore", Colin was elected chairman of the committe which approached the Government to build a school. The government agreed and a school was opened after Easter in 1904. The
first teacher was Colin's eldest daughter, Minnie, who had trained as a pupil-teacher. The school was named Mt. Tyson.
In the early years "Glenmore" continued to be the meeting place of the district. Church of England and Methodist ministers came and conducted services at "Glenmore". During 1907, both demoninations built churches in the village of Mt. Tyson
and Colin was chairman of each building committee. Electioneering politicians also used "Glenmore" as their headquarters.
Colin had started dairying in 1904. He and his neighbours sent cream by horse and cart to a station on the Pittsworth rail line for cartage to the Butter Factory in Toowoomba. This continued until 1909 when Colin built his own cheese factory
at "Glenmore". His son, Malcolm, who had become a quilified cheesemaker, was made manager. The cheese was taken to Pittsworth by dray and then sent to Brisbane by rail to be sold. Colin's cheese factory was very successful, winning a prize
for the highest average grade of export cheese for the season 1913-14. He was presented with this prize at the Brisbane Exhibition by the Minister for Agriculture. In 1915, a railway line opened from Oakey to Evanslea, and ran through the
paddocks in front of the house, so cheese was no longer taken to Pittsworth. Mc Intyre's Cheese Factory continued until destroyed by fire in 1921.
During the early years at "Glenmore", Colin made several land purchases, acquiring adjoining land to the east and north which increased the home property to 940 acres. In 1912 he bought 632 acres of plain country about 10 miles west for 4
Pounds an acre. This is now Bongeen. The following year another 320 acres were acquired 3 miles from "Glenmore" for 5 Pounds 2 Shillings 6 Pence an acre. Further additions were made in 1915 - 170 acres @ 4 Pounds 17 Shillings 6 Pence an acre
about 1 mile from the home block - and in 1921, 632 acres adjoining the Bongeen property. The latter was sold in 1925.
Sadness touched the family during these years at "Glenmore". In 1909 the youngest child, Violet, aged 5 suddenly became ill and died while visiting her sister Minnie. She was interred in Pittsworth cemetery beside her brother, Peter, who had
been killed in 1893. Early in 1913 Colin's wife Elizabeth became ill. Despite a trip to Sydney to visit a specialist, she continued to weaken. On 3 August 1913 she passed away and was laid to rest beside her 2 children.
In 1914 the Great War broke out and three of Colin's sons served for varying lengths of time. Fortunately they all returned safely. During the war years and into the 1920's, five of Colin's sons married and were helped to start their farming
careers on each of the properties he had purchased earlier. One son, Jack, had left when in his teens to work with is aunt, Violet Brodie, who had stores at Greenmount and Nobby. One son, Gus, on returning from the war, had indifferent health
and spent long periods in military hospitals so was unable to run a farm. He died in 1938.
A noteworthy feature of Colin's family was that they were very closely knit and always on friendly terms. They helped one another as occasion demanded down through the years and family get-togethers were frequent.
In 1925 Colin sold his "Glenmore" property to his youngest son Ken. He resided with Ken until 1928 when he left for Britain on the ship "Hobson's Bay" with a Scottish delegation of some 600 Scottish people from all states of Australia. Colin
had a most interesting time, visiting relatives and also "Stuckendroin", his old home and birthplace. he returned via Canada arriving home in October 1928.
Following this marvellous trip he resided from varying periods of time with his sons until he had two rooms built on to his eldest daughter, Minnie's house at Ironate. He lived there from 1929 to 1932. Because of failing health and the need
to be near medical attention, he moved to Toowoomba and lived for a time with his sister-in-law and later with a son. In 1935 he had a fall which caused a general physcial collapse. After entering hospital in early October, he passed away on
the 22nd of that month. He was buried in Pittsworth Cemetery beside his wife and two children. | Colin McKenzie McINTYRE

EXTRACTS FROM THE BOOK 'Lock Lomond to Australia 1862. The Mc Intyre Family" Extracts revelant to Forsyth Family.
Malcolm Mc Intyre, fourth child and second son of Jane & Peter Mc Intyre, was born on 29 January, 1841 at "Edintaggarl", in the Pasrtish of Luss, county of Dunbartonshir, Scotland.
The family moved to "Stuckendroin" about May 1841 where Malcolm grew up. He arrived in Queensland with his father and family in 1862. They all travelled to Chinchilla Station on the condamine River. Malcolm obtained work and was generally
handy around the station. He and John Mc Phee built a new station store there, a log building of cypress pine with a bark roof.
In early February, 1864, Malcolm, John and Peter left Chinchilla on horseback and rode to Ipswich, where Malcolm worked for Walter Grey, wool dumping with his brother John and Daniel Brodie. He met Isabella Phair, the daughter of James Phair
and Catherine Willis and in 1866 they were married in Ipswich. Malcolm was working in a store and had a nice house.
He and Isabella had eight children, three of whom died in childhood:- Jane born 1867, Violet Isabella born 1870 and Malcolm born 1877. The others were:- Peter, James Phair, Isabella (Forsyth), Catherine Jane, and Emily Agnes. They were living
in Ann Street, Spring Hill in September, 1878 when baby Malcolm died.
When Malcolm and his family were going thrugh very difficult times, his brothers, donald and Dugald, helped out by signing a promissory note for 140 pounds with interest at 12.1/2 per cent for six months and his father, Peter gave him a horse.
Malcolm was a hawker and living in Allora when he was accidentally killed on 24 September 1880, at the Hendn Railway Station. He is buried in the Allora cemetery.
At the inquest held on 27 Swptember, evidence given by the stationmaster and a farmer revealed that Malcolm had been in the railway station office signing for the rceipt of some goods and was at that time perfectly sober. Ten minutes after he
left the office the up train from Toowoomba arrived. The horses were restive and Malcolm was trying to steady them. The moment the train stopped, the horses bolted with the loaded dray. The shafter shot by the leader throwing Malcolm on to
the ground and the wheel of the dray passed over his head killing him instantly. The inquest found no suspicion.
His widow, Isabella, was left with five young children between 1 and 11 years old. She returned to Brisbane and supported her family operating a boarding house, "Ebronah" at 260 Boundary Street, Spring Hill. About 1888 she moved two doors
along to No. 246, "Toorong House" which she ran until 1903 when she moved to "Bignonia" in Merthyr Road, New Farm, between Abbott * Moray Streets. From 1905 until the time of her death on 26 July 1907 she lived at 47 Martin Street, New Farm." | Malcolm McINTYRE

When the Mt. Tyson School, situated only half a mile from "Glenmore", opened in 1904, she applied for and was granted the position of its first teacher.
In 1905, Minnie was married in the springside Church of England, to Alexander Roy Fletcher, whom she had met while teaching at Coomundra. They lived first at "The Ranch", a cattle property near Gore, but this was later sold and they purchased
"Kia Ora:, a 172 acre block near Mt. Russell. They renamed this property "Glengarry", and there reared their five children:- Alan, colin, Ina (Baxter), Jack and Peter. (Jack married Margaret Edith Forsyth).
Minnie and her husband continued to live at :"Glengarry", increasing their land holding over the years by securing several adjoining properties. Minnie was an active member of the Irongate district, becoming foundation President of the C.W.A.
Being a very hospitable person, Sunday tennis parties were a regular occurrance at her home.
Minnie ensured that all her children were well educated and was very proud of her son, Alan, who became the Member for Cunningham on the retirement of her uncle, Malcolm Mc Intyre. During his political cereer, Alan was appointed Speaker of the
House, and later to the portfolios of Land and Education. He was honoured with a knighthood for his services to the Queensland government.
At the age of 82, Minnie left "Glengarry" to reside at Brodribb Home in Toowoomba, her husband having predeceased her in 1958. Here she kept her mind active by doing crochet and crossword puzzles. She retained her interest in current affairs
and politics, always welcoming a lively discussion with her brothers. She died in 1982, aged 102. | Rosina Wilhelmina McINTYRE

EXTRACTS FROM THE BOOK "Loch Lomond to Australia 1862/ The Family of Peter & Jane Mc Intyre" Extracts revelant to Forsyth Family.
"Violet, the eldest child of Peter & Jane Mc Intyre, was born on 11 February 1835 at "Edintaggarl", a farm in Glen Luss, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. When Violet was 6 yearts old, the family moved north to "Stuckendroin"
When Violet's mother died in March 1859, she and her sister Agnes took care of the family. On 30 November 1860 at the Brodie farm, "Garbel", just north of Ardlui, Violet married Daniel Brodie, the fifth son and seventh child of John Brodie and
Agnes MacFarlane.
After their marriage they lived at Stillbraw, Tarbet where their first child, Jane was born. In July 1862, Daniel, Violet and Jane migrated to Queensland with Violet's father and family on the "Ocean Chief". It must have been a difficult
journey for Violet with a year old child and pregnant with her second.
They settled in Ipswich where Daniel found work at mc Donalds, and later with Walter Gray. About 1864 they bought an allotment in Arthur Street, Woodend and had a house built. Daniel was hard working, reld iable and honest and became
foreman for J. & G. Harris who were merchants and shipping agents. Five more children - Agnes, Joh Eason, Peter, Violet Christina, and Daniel were born to Violet and Daniel in Ipswich. The older children attended school. All was going well
for the family.
On 17 July 1874, after a fall from his horse when returning to Ipswich from Brisbane, Daniel died from concussion of the brain aggravated by a whole night's exposure to the cold. He was buried in the Ipswich cemetery. Violet was 39 years old
and left with a young family of six and one unborn. She was an unstentatious but staunch Presbyterian, with a great love for her Church and in all her sorrows at this time, her faith was her strength and comfort.
Through the kind influence of John Archibald, the manager of J. & G. Harris where Daniel worked, the men of the firm gave her 100 Pounds. Along with assistance of other friends in Ipswich, Violet was able to keep her family together. She
remembered all her life these practical gestures of kindness. Violet now decided to go to "Benvorlick", Emu Creek to stay with her father, Peter Mc Intyre and her brothers Donald and Colin, who had offered her a home and where she kept house
for them. Her youngest son, Malcolm was born there in 1875.
As Peter Mc Intyre was not in a position to support his daughter and her children indefinitely, Violet decided to become a storekeeper. For 150 Pounds she purchased a building with living quarters attached which had been the Farmer's Arms
Hotel at The Siding, later Greenmount. It is believed to have been the first and, at that time, the only building there. It had been built for railway workers when the railway came through but the owner had been unable to make it pay.
The story goes that when Violet went to take over her property, the former owner had barricaded himself in and refused to come out until offered more money. Violet asked for help from two Irishmen who said they would smoke him out. When they
threatened to do this, the man came out smartly. He was offered 5 Pounds extra and left, so all was well.
After paying for the building, the only capital left to buy stock was 40 Pounds, and with this she cheerfully, and determinedly made a start in her new life. The store opened for business in July 1876. The company and support of her father
and brothers were a great help to violet in the early years when her family were young. Her brothers, Dan and colin, helped in the evening to ipen up goods and calculate a profitable selling price.
She did not make an instant fortune as a storekeeper and for some years it was a hard battle. The population of the Greenmount district was neither large nor rich and agricultural markets were very unstable. Yet with all the drawbacks, the
business prospered. Each year, as the district grew, it became established on a firmer foundation. The shelves were no longer sparsely stocked - indeed the store was bulging at the seams. The change from farming to dairying resulted in a
bigger and better circulation of cash, giving the business an impetus. Eventually another store was opened in Nobby to cope with the volume of business and a monthly delivery service was started to Pilton and West Haldon.
The family grew up in her home with love and joy. Violet possessed a charming disposition and a kindly nature. As time went by she was loved by all,m and her never ending kindness to those in trouble or distress will not be forgotten. Violet
set a high standard for the conduct of her business, and by her integrity and straight forward dealings gained the respect and goodwill of the community. Many a struggling settler was helped through difficult times with credit, sometimes
extended with no strings attached. In a number of instances she carried debts of 80 and 90 Pounds for months or even years,m large sums of money for 100 years ago.
As the business grew she needed assistance. First her son, Dan the Malcolm became grocers but only after Violet had sent them to Brisbane to learn accountancy and business management. She taught the grocery trade to her nephew, Jack Mc Intyre
who became manager of the Nobby store, a position he held until 1923.
In 1899. with the business under her sons' management and her family settled, Violet retired to Clayfield, Brisbane where she lived with her daughter Violet Christina, "Tean", and her husband Arthur Hoey Davis. Violet had extra rooms built on
to their house for her own use.
In May 1904 the business title was changed from Mrs. Violet Brodie to V. Brodie & Co. Violet returned to Greenmount in 1906 and built a comfortable cottage there, which she called "Glen Falloch". Her granchildren remember visiting Grandma
Brodie and having bread, butter and sugar as a treat. She saw a substantial brick building replace the original building which was used for storage.
When opening the Greenmount Show in April 1911, the Hon. James Tolmie, MLA for Toowoomba, paid tribute to Violet saying she had "acted as 'mother' of the people of Greenmount".
On 10 September 1911, after five years of retirement spent amongst her family and with the people she had helped and cheered by her hopful nature, she passed peacefully away at her home. The next afternoon, Violet was buried in the Greenmount
Cemetery. There were over 100 vehicles plus 100 horseman, estimated in all to be 400 people in the funeral procession."

RELIEF WORKER'S DEATH.
Taxi Driver Committed for Trial.
The City Coroner (Mr. Oram) yesterday committed William Mcpherson, 39, taxi-driver, of Halloran-street, Leichhardt, for trial, on a charge of manslaughter. Mr. Oram had found that James McLean, 32, of Anzac-parade, South Kensington, relief worker, died from injuries received when he was knocked down by a taxi-cab, negligently driven by Mcpherson, at the intersection of Anzac parade and Hannan-lane, South Kensington.
The evidence was that on the night of January l8, McLean was walking along the side of the road in Anzac-parade, South Ken- sington, where no proper footpaths, are pro- vided. He was pushing a perambulator con- taining two children, and his wife and daughters were walking alongside him. The taxi-cab struck McLean, killing him instantly. The perambulator was pushed out of the road of the taxi, and the children in it escaped injury.
Mr. W. Parker appeared for the relatives of McLean, and Mr. L. J. Herron (Instructed by Messrs. Mccaw, Moray, and Co.) for Mcpherson.
