GOLDEN WEDDING
A Happy Incident
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Forsyth, who completed fifty years of married life on Wednesday last, have received numerous telegrams and other indications of the high esteem in which they are held by local and interstate friends, and were the recipients of some very beautiful flowers sent by Commander Wilmot, also Mr. Stewart Eardley Wilmot, for whom Mr. Forsyth was avalued servant for twenty-three years.
The staff of Messrs. D. and W. Murray Ltd.. with whom he is now employed, met at a few minutes to one o'clock, when Mr. A. C. Meek, on behalf of his fellow workers, in a few well-chosen words, presented Mr. Forsyth with a wallet and gift of sovereigns in celebration of the event.
Mr. Forsyth responded feelingly, and made evident his deep appreciation of this unexpected gift.
Lovely baskets of flowers were re ceived from Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Wilkins, Miss Gladys Cahill, old gold sweets from Mrs. J. Connell, and many telegrams from absent friends were received. A unique gift of a golden bell containing sovereigns was received from Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Forsyth the gift being tied with the Coraon tartan ribbons. A gift of sovereigns came from
Mr. and Mrs.,A. Forsyth, while a pretty present was a bowl of gold fish and sovereigns from Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McFadzean.
Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth have been residents of Launceston for 10 years, and their many friends will be glad to learn that they are in very good health, and look forward to many more years of useful citizenship.

MARRIED FOR 60 YEARS
Mr.-Mrs. R. Forsyth,
Launceston
To-day Mr. and Mrs. Richard Forsyth, Cimitiere-street, will celebrate their diamond wedding, and will be the guests of honour at a family reunion at their home.
Although it is over fifty years since Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth decided to leave their native land, Scotland, and to settle in Australia, they both retain the Scots accent, and there is a Scottish atmosphere in their home, where photographs of their sons in kilts, and old Scottish pictures decorate the walls.
Sixty years ago to-day, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Forsyth were bride and bridegroom in the church at Rutherglen. Scotland. A few years later they decided to come to Australia to make their home, and with their three eldest sons arrived in Queensland in
May, 1888. From there Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth went to New South Wales, where their fourth son was born. Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth then came to Tasmania, and settled at Westbury. Their only daughter, Margaret, was born at Westbury. A few years late Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth moved to Launceston, and for over 40 years they have lived in this city, where they are well known and highly respected.
Eight years after they arrived in Australia Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth decided to return to Scotland. but Australia lured them back again, and they returned in 1883, after only a few months at home.
Mrs. Forsyth does not go out a great deal, as she suffers with rheumatism, but she enjoys talking to friends, and does her own housework. Mr. Forsyth is a typical Scotsman, with a very deep love for the land of his birth. Hle wears on his watch chain
the badge of the Victorian Thistle Club, presented to him for his ability as a judge of Scottish dancing, his favourite tie is one of tartan. and on the lapel of his coat is a treasured badge of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. Mr. Forsyth belonged to the 31st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers Regiment. and out of a regiment otf 3500, only 20 were chosen to be a guard of honour to the then King. and for the distinction of being one of the twenty Mr. Forsyth was presented with the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders' badge.
Mr. Forsyth was a judge of Highland dancing at the Caledonian sports for 15 years, and a member of the Caledonian Society for 30 years.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth are in their 82nd year. Their sons are Mr. Andrew Forsyth. Henty-street. Invermay; Mr. Peter Forsyth. Melbourne (who is in Launceston for the celebrations). Mr. Edmund Forsyth. Victoria, and Mrs. Charles MacDonald, Hobart. is the only daughter. Mrs. MacDonald has also come to Launceston for the family reunion to-day.
Another son, Robert, died some years ago.
There are 13 grandchildren, and the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Forsyth. Trevallyn, is the only great grandson.

THE LATE MR. R. C. FORSYTH.
The current number of the " Pastoratists' Review " publishes 'a splendid photograph of the late Mr. R. C. Forsyth, together with an appreciative notice of his career. The writer, after referring to his wonderful success as a breeder of Lincolns, says For many years Mr. Forsyth
was a member of the Hamilton P. and A. Society. He was a also a member of the Sheepherders' Association, of which he was appointed vice-president last year, a similar honour being again conferred on him this year. He was a keen supporter of coursing, being the holder of many valuable trophies won at the meetings of the Hamilton and surrounding district coursing clubs. With his dog Goldthought he was runner-up for the Commonwealth Stakes in 1907, and in 1908 he secured the coveted prize. He was a member of:the board of' management of the Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, and like all his co-religionists in that district, he was. a loyal and liberal supporter of the 'historical church of his
fathers. In private life Mr. Forsyth was quiet and unobtrusive, a sterling friend and genial comrade, and a most devoted husband and father.
His premature death is the source of genuine regret throughout a large circle of friends in the Western district, as well as amongst all interested in the breeding of high-class sheep. In 1884 Mr Forsyth married Annie, daughter of the late, John Thompson, of Craighton, near, ' Geelong. To his family, consisting of the widow three sons, and one daughter, the loss is irreparable. | Robert Campbell Forsyth

ALDERMAN'S STRUGGLE.
AWAKENED BY INTRUDER.
Thomas Kane, 26, labourer, who appeared at the North Sydney Police Court, was committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering the house of Robert Charles Forsyth in Ivy-street, Wollstonecraft, at about 3.30 a.m. on June 4, and stealing a pair of stock- ings, valued at 5/6.
Mr. Forsyth, who is an alderman of tha North Sydney Council and a member of the Water Board, stated that he retired to bed, in an upstairs room, about midnight on June 3, after locking up the house. Later on ha was awakened by a noise in lils bedroom. He got up and went on to the landing, where he saw a man running from one of the other rooms. Giving chase, he caught him on the first stair landing, where a struggle took place. They rolled to the floor below, where witness still had hold of the man. The latter managed to pull away, and rushed through the front door, which was partly open. Mr. Forsyth followed into the garden, where he saw the man disappearing over the fence. The electricity supply to the house had been cut off. He could not recognise the Intruder.
Constable Bushell stated that he took the defendant to Ivy-street, Wollstonecraft. De- fendant pointed to No. 2 in that street, and said "That's the place where I had the struggle with Mr. Forsyth. I was a bit lucky to get away; he nearly choked me."
Mr. Stevenson, S.M., fixed bail at £40.

NINE TIMES MAYOR.
ALD. FORSYTH HONOURED.
WELL-GOVERNED MUNICIPALITY
"A well-deserved tribute to a worthy man," said Sir Joseph Cook, Federal Treasurer, at tho Town Hall, Chatswood, on Saturday evening, , in addressing a large gathering of the friends of Alderman R. T. Forsyth, Mayor of Willoughby, and in presenting him with an illuminated address and a gold watch and chain, together with a dinner and tea service for Mrs. Forsyth. Alderman F. C. Petrie occupied the chair.
The chairman said that when he went to the district 21 yoars ago Chatswood was a wildernoss, but even then Forsyth was a household word there. In 1875 the present Mayor's grandfather was Mayor, and in the eighties his father occupied the mayoral chair, The present Mayor vvas in turn an auditor to the council, then alderman, and he had been elected Mayor nine times. The Forsyth family bad blazed the track in the,'slxties' and had put their hands in their own pockets to make roads out from their tannery.
Sir Joseph Cook said that he himself was once auditor toth Lithgow Council, and he looked back to thoso days with pride. Things now-a-days were difficult for mayors as for other people. They were the great unpaid, and they got many kicks. When things went wrong mayor and aldermon got tho blame. Behind all the grumbling there was a solid feellng of appreciation and goodwill towards the public men of this country.
Sir Thomas Henley and Mossrs. T. Bavin and David Anderson, Ms.L.A., also spoke.
Alderman Forsyth, in rospondlng, said that when hin grandfather was mayor. In 1875, the budget only amounted to £500, and in 1888, during his father's mayoralty It had risen to £1000. Last year their revenue was £47,000, and 500 houses, representing an expenditure of £500,000, were put up in the municipality.
