LUCIUS PATRICK FORSYTH
One of the best known pioneer farmers and graziers of this district, Mr. L. P. Forsyth of Wallendbeen, passed away in his sleep, at 2.20 this morning, at his home, 'Karonga' Wallendbeen, after a long illness, the last week or so of which he was unconscious. He was 70. Two years ago the veteran had a severe illness which he survived, and was getting about again in the car and on horseback and was regaining his old time vigor and rugged personality; but the heart played up again The last serious turn was six weeks.ago. Deceased did not rise from his bed again Coming to the district from Victoria over fifty years ago, the two brothers, Eddie and L.P., the young
est members of the family, selected bocks at West Jindalee, delved In hard and in due course prospered, setting a good example to other followers of the primary industries The brother, it will be remembered, coIlapsed and died at the Cootamundra show.
The subject of our notice left his old property, "Bonnyview" about five years ago, and retired to the beautiful apple orchard "Karonga" on the hill overlooking the town of Wallendbeen

Margaret was born about 1863 in Keith, Banffshire to James and Ann Forsyth. In 1887 in Glasgow, she married William Reid, a sign-writer.
They lived in Glasgow, where her sons William b 1887/8 and Henry G b 1891 were born.
In early 1891, she returned to Keith with her children to visit or live with her father, and they were there on census night in March 1891.
When Maggie's father died in Aberdeen in 1896, his address was 68 Spital (the name of a street in Central Aberdeen, still there today),
and she was described as "Daughter and Inmate (Present)".
The significance of "inmate" is not clear. Had they come upon hard times and was 68 Spital perhaps an annex to the poorhouse? (There was one nearby.)
The 1901 census shows Maggie as married (not widowed) and living in a single room in Edinburgh with son Henry.
She was by then a worker (in a rubber factory), and this all suggests she was still struggling financially, and probably living apart from her husband.
What had happened to him, and where was her other son? | Margaret FORSYTH
